The Indeh

THE INDEH (A Jason Peares Historical Western)

In 1880 New Mexico, Jason Peares, ex-outlaw gunfighter, hires on as a scout for the Buffalo Soldiers, the black soldiers of the Ninth Cavalry, and becomes part of an effort to locate an important leader of the Apache Nation, known only as Juh (pronounced "Hoe"). Jason begins to forge new friendships with several of the black "Buffalo Soldiers", but he is unaware of a conspiracy meant to attach the Apache warriors and prolong the war for economic and political reasons.

Labeled a renegade, Juh prepares to sign a new peace treaty that would end the Indian wars of New Mexico forever. But first he prepares to move his village back to Mexico for safety, so he and his men raid an Army wagon train for badly needed food and supplies. While they're gone, though, a rogue company from the US Army with secret orders attacks the Apache village.

Jason attempts to stop the massacre, but he narrowly escapes an ambush himself. When fleeing becomes the only option, he leads a band of Apache survivors across the desert of southern New Mexico during one of the hottest summers in history.

In response to the massacre, the Apache warriors begin retaliatory attacks on the citizens of southern New Mexico. As a result, the Buffalo Soldiers receive orders to hunt down and arrest the rogue Army company, the Apache warriors, and Jason Peares if he interferes. Always a champion of the weak and defenseless, Jason soon becomes involved in a three-sided war that pits him against deadly warriors, ruthless Army renegade mercenaries, and his new friends of the Buffalo Soldiers.
